Reading a document
We fetch the page with an honest user-agent and we obey robots.txt — if a site asks us not to read a page, we do not read it. Pages that need JavaScript get rendered in a real browser. PDFs and Word files are parsed directly. We never store or republish a full copy of anyone's document; we quote at most 25 words per clause and always link to the original.
Why every point has a quote
An explanation you cannot check is just an opinion. Every clause we describe carries the verbatim wording and the section it came from, so you can search the original document and confirm it in a few seconds. Where a clause is genuinely ambiguous we mark it low confidence rather than rounding it into false certainty.
How grading works
Grades are arithmetic, not vibes. Each clause scores its category weight times its severity, the total is capped at 100, and the letter comes from fixed published bands. The same document always produces the same grade. The methodology page shows the entire formula, including every weight.
Reading it once, for everyone
A document is analysed once and then served from cache to everyone who asks. That is why picking twenty services during onboarding takes seconds rather than twenty minutes — we have already read them.
Watching for changes
Documents get re-fetched on a schedule: the most-read daily, the middle weekly, the long tail monthly. We compare a hash of the text first and only re-read it with a model when the text has actually moved. When something changes on a document you watch, you hear about it in dollars and days — "your $203 renews in twelve days and the cancellation window just got shorter" — never in clause numbers.
